Rock on — when I started typing this update out, I was under the impression that I’d have another round of interviews to go through on the job I’ve been trying to get…but I just got a call, and I’m hired!

Books and movies July 29, 2001
I did hit Blockbuster video and picked up three movies I hadn’t seen before. I went with Scary Movie , Cherry Falls, and The Contender. Of the three, the only one really worth watching was The Contender.

Anyway…went out to see Tim Burton’s Planet of the Apes, one of the big films I’d been waiting to see this summer. So how was it? Horrid — the end result was it’s a matinee at best…quite possibly only a rental.

New talkback feature July 26, 2001
I’m experimenting with more ‘toys’ to play with on my website, and have found a talkback system that seems to fit quite nicely between the limited interactivity of the polls I toss up occasionally and the full messageboard I have running.

Much as I try not to let things get to me, and keep a healthy and happy outlook on whatever’s going on in my life, sometimes it’s neccesary to let my frustrations fly — and when I do, it’s wonderful to get the occasional ‘buck up, kiddo’ from people out there.

Turns out that when the lady reviewing the online apps saw my resume she realized that I was somewhat over-qualified for a simple data-entry spot, but also knew that there were positions opening in the reprographics industry that I’m eminently qualified for.

Is this going to work? July 24, 2001
I’m starting to get really worried as to whether this whole thing is going to work out for me. It seems I may have made a bit of a mistake in moving my departure date up to when I did — I arrived in Seattle at a time when the job market is pretty nasty, and I’m getting really tired of being unemployed.

So Friday evening I got a call from Holly seeing if I was up to heading out for another party with her group of friends. Not very hard to answer — I’m still unemployed, so have no set schedule, and I had a lot of fun at the her birthday party…so it was a go, as far as I was concerned.

Neighbors, and a new desk July 20, 2001
The landlord stopped by my apartment to see how I was getting along, and it turned out that he had some more old furniture that he was willing to give to me. So in addition to the couch he gave me last week, I’ve now got an absolutely ginormous table in my place.

The job hunt commences July 18, 2001
Not a whole lot going on at the moment, beyond getting into job searching. Yesterday I e-mailed my resume to a hiring rep for Kinko’s, and turned in an application and resume to Suncoast. Aside from that, things have been pretty slow.

I’m currently without a way to get my computers up and running (my monitors are still in Alaska, coming down with Rick in a month or two, I can’t get DSL until I get my first phone bill, and I don’t have a modem built into any of my machines).

Buses are fun July 10, 2001
There are various repairs still being done around town from the earthquake last February, and they’re currently closing down the Ballard bridge each night, forcing the bus to take a longer route.

My stuff, Hank, and my apartment July 9, 2001
I ended up with one pallette to be shipped — a grand total of 1,075 lbs. — and when I stood next to it, it looked like it was about 7 ft. high. Lots of crap, basically, but it’s my crap, and it’s the crap I wanted to keep.

It works! July 8, 2001
You’ll notice the new(est) look to the site — finally found a layout I liked, and was flexible enough to work sitewide. Spent most of the day in front of the computer working on it, and now the majority of the pages are converted over to the new design.

Site design: why CSS? July 7, 2001
I’m redesigning the site to comply with current Cascading Style Sheet standards. While I’d been using CSS for a while now to standardize and simplify the formatting across the site, this is my first foray into using CSS for the actual site layout.
