  1. Kudos to The Onion September 28, 2001

Upon completing His outburst, God fell silent, standing quietly at the podium for several moments. Then, witnesses reported, God’s shoulders began to shake, and He wept.

  2. Wow… September 27, 2001

There’s a distinct possibility that I just might be able to get out of debt within the next month.

  3. To boldly go… September 27, 2001

Okay, what was the point to the decontamination scene? Or, rather, was there a point beyond titillation?

  4. Enterprise September 26, 2001

Tonight’s the premiere episode of Enterprise, the new Star Trek series. I’m hoping to be able to catch it, Damon has said I can hang out over at his place tonight to see the show. Hopefully it’ll be worthwhile — I’ve gotta admit, I’m intrigued by what I’ve read so far.

  5. Bleah. Bleah, bleah, bleah. And a pfpptfptpfpt too. September 26, 2001

Unfortunately, falling asleep at one in the morning doesn’t exactly help ensure a quick up-n-at-‘em in the morning. I didn’t miss my bus, but I sure didn’t hop out of bed as quickly as I do when I crash out at 10pm.

  6. Just a quick word or two September 24, 2001

Just tossing a quick entry in before I send out the e-mail update to those few people who get it. It’s Monday morning and I’m at work, so don’t want to spend too long here, but I thought it would be good to get a little bit in here so I’m not completely out of date.

  8. Slow times September 19, 2001

Of course, even when I claim that life is boring and I have nothing to do or say about it, I can still fill up eight-plus pages in this little notebook about my lack of anything to write about. Like that will come as a surprise to anyone who knows me.

  9. Too cool for words September 18, 2001

I just found a listing on the Corona Coming Attractions movie news/rumor site detailing a film that I will have my skinny lil’ butt planted in the seat for come opening day — HardWired.

  10. No more virus alerts September 18, 2001

Please do not blindly forward every ‘alert’, ‘warning’, or whatever else to everyone you know. I don’t know about you, but I would much rather not receive anything twenty-five times.

  11. I don’t even know what to say to this September 17, 2001

It may be the single most disgusting and infuriating response I’ve seen yet to last week’s tragedy, and all the more so because of the people it comes from — men who claim to be spreading God’s word on earth.

  12. A good weekend for movies September 16, 2001

In the midst of more and more news about the continuing aftermath of the WTC and Pentagon attacks, and in a world where it looks more and more like the U.S. may soon be declaring war, I decided it was a good time to take a bit of a vacation and head out to the movies.

Peter Marshall: It is the most abused and neglected part of your body — what is it? Paul Lynde: Mine may be abused but it certainly isn’t neglected!

  14. Political cartoons September 12, 2001

There’s a feature over at Slate with a lot of different political cartoons responding to yesterday’s tragic attacks. Most share a few obvious common themes, but there’s one theme that struck me as I kept seeing it come from the pen of so many different artists.

  15. It all keeps getting scarier September 12, 2001

Anytime a noice like a plane is heard everyone instantly starts looking up, trying to figure out where it’s coming from, where it might be going, and whether it’s friendly or not. The speed that something as familiar as an airplane engine can become a trigger for paranoia and fright is just staggering.

  17. Still can’t really believe it September 11, 2001

All and all, it’s been an absolutely incredible and tragic day. The single biggest terrorist attack the world has ever seen, with repercussions that can only be speculated about at this early stage, and only the weeks to come will show where things go from here.

  18. How far is this going to go? September 11, 2001

My thoughts and prayers certainly go out today — not just for the unfortunate victims and families of victims of the attacks this morning, but for an, if not peaceful, than at least less-than-cataclysmic resolution to this entire affair.

  19. Nano-nano! September 10, 2001

In The Diamond Age, Stephenson does for nanotechnology what he did for the internet and virtual reality in Snow Crash — takes today’s best existing ideas and theories and extrapolates them forward into the future to explore where the technologies can take us.

  20. Funny or frightening? Both? September 7, 2001

Amazon.com customers comment on the American Film Institute’s top 20 films of the 20th century. Kind of explains why such tripe becomes so popular these days, and the movies worth seeing are so hard to find (if they even get made).

  21. More about this cruise thing September 6, 2001

Basically, it sounds like a dream job. Get paid to take a 6-month (at least) cruise, spinning in a top-flight dance club every night.

  22. More cruiseship daydreaming September 4, 2001

Every time I had to place another call to Xerox to see if I could get a tech to fix my machine today, the idea of spending six months getting paid to spin for a club on a cruise ship sounded better and better.
