  1. Concrete Blonde review posted January 31, 2002

I just got e-mail from Dean, the webmaster of a Concrete Blonde fansite. Earlier this morning I’d e-mailed him about my little writeup of last night’s show, and he went ahead and posted it on his site!

  2. Still in Hollywood January 31, 2002

I’ve been to shows where the band is too busy performing to really make a connection with the audience. Johnette is anything but that — the kind of artist that you can, and do, actually believe when they talk about how much they’re enjoying being there, how much fun they’re having performing, and how much they love the audience that night.

  3. More tidbits January 29, 2002

Another collection of links that I stumble across during the day. This is an easy way for me to temporarily ‘bookmark’ places I can’t dive into while at work, but don’t want to completely forget about by the time I get home. As before, feel free to peruse.

  4. Interesting tidbits January 28, 2002

Just some interesting stuff I’ve stumbled across in the last few days. I might start doing this occasionally — the things I grab may or may not be of interest to anyone else, but they catch my eye for one reason or another. Make of that what you will.

  5. It does snow here! January 28, 2002

Candice and I walked down to Westlake Center (one of two main shopping malls in downtown Seattle), and were both amazed at how dead it was for a Sunday afternoon. Apparently nobody thought they could actually make it out of the house.

  6. Enterprise: Dear Doctor January 24, 2002

Never having watched Quantum Leap very often, I’m not overly familiar with Scott Bakula’s acting, and this was one of the first times I really thought I got to see more than a variation of the ‘excited kid out playing in the universe’ that Archer has been so far (something I chalk up a bit more to the writers than to Bakula’s performances as yet).

  7. Flaming down Broadway January 24, 2002

I hadn’t known this before, never having seen the Torch relay before, but it’s not done with one runner from start to finish through each town. Rather, they have multiple runners, each one carrying a torch for a short distance, at the end of which the flame is passed on to the next runner with their own torch for the next leg.

  8. Karl got fat! Er…phat? Um… January 24, 2002

This is one of those things that mom would kill me for admitting, but I’ve occasionally thought that getting a motorcycle would be a lot of fun.

  9. That’s a big cockroach! January 22, 2002

I swear, that cockroach is going to pick up my stereo, put it on his shoulders and just crawl right out of there one of these days…

  11. Evolution January 19, 2002

It’s kind of a slow Saturday today, so Candice and I rented a couple movies to kill the day with. She’s working on homework while I watch the flicks, and the first one I checked out was Evolution.

  14. Enterprise: Silent Enemy January 17, 2002

It’s just starting to seem like their desire to be the first explorers from space is getting in the way of their better judgement — almost like they’re afraid that if they do go back to earth, they won’t be allowed to go play anymore.

  15. Bad site slowdowns January 16, 2002

Okay — if you’re reading this, you may (or may have not) noticed that for some reason, my website is responding incredibly slowly at the moment. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to figure out just why this is happening yet.

Now here’s a headline that I don’t think I could have made up if I tried: ‘Jesus Charged With Bail Jumping, Intimidating Witness!’

I’m slowly but surely getting all the old posts that disappeared when I borked things up put back in.

  18. A good day for quotes, as it turns out January 16, 2002

Clearly he failed to reckon with an attention span deficit so profound it makes even a roomful of espresso-torqued toddlers with power tools seem focused by comparison.

  19. Another quote January 16, 2002

All we may say is, that the more purely an aesthete a man is, the more likely he is to prefer cats; since the superior grace, beauty, manners and neatness of the cat cannot but conquer the fancy of any impartial observer emancipated from mundane and ethical illusions.

  20. Spooky… January 16, 2002

The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far.

  22. Ruminations on Star Wars January 14, 2002

It’s funny, I just watched the whole trilogy last night for the first time in ages. People complained about EP1 being too cartoony and kid friendly. Have you ever watched these movies? Except for Empire, they’re as kid-friendly as anything Nickelodeon puts out. Jar-Jar would have fit right in.

  23. Quotebook updates January 14, 2002

I believe Royce may end up with more links to his site from mine alone than from the rest of the ‘net in totality. Never let it be said I never do a friend a favor — no matter how completely goofball it may be.

End result from both of us — cute flick. Probably a matinee or renter rather than an evening show, but definitely fun to watch.

  25. AARRGGHH!! January 13, 2002

I had some problems with my webserver earlier this weekend, which necessitated having to reinstall the system. When I copied the essential files for my website off the box, I forgot one crucial little directory — and managed to completely bork up my blog software. Dammit.
