We should render Mecca a nonplace IF one of our holy places, trade center was a holy place of our secular capitalistic religion, is again hit. We should explain to the world that we are not interested in spending ourselves into debt to defend against Muslim terrorists. If conservative and moderate muslims cannot root out and stop the radical elements of their religion then we have no choice. Does anyone really believe that if we are hit a few more times like the trade center that any politician will be able to withstand the outcry to take out Mecca. We might as well save the Muslim world from any suprise and state up front that if it happens again Mecca is on the table even if our leaders do not wish it so. Guranteed, if the president and congress are unwilling they will be voted out of office and in 2005 Mecca will be reduced to glass beads. If Muslims over the world do not understand this they lack an understanding of the behavior of past great satans.
This has to be one of the scariest comments I’ve gotten on my site yet. Congratulations, Gary, in a sick sort of way. And not a good kind of sick, either.
Maybe I didn’t make it too clear in my original post (but then, I didn’t think I’d need to), but I found the idea of nuking Mecca to be incredibly asinine, disgusting, and horrific. To not only take this idea seriously, but to defend it, and recommend it as a possible course of action is truly mind boggling. The Trade Center towers were not religious (save possibly in the most cynical depths of America’s perceived worship of money, a level of cynicism that even I am not prepared to stoop to), and can in no way be equated to Mecca, the centerpiece of the entire Muslim religion.
What ‘outcry’? I suppose that it’s possible that there is an outcry, but it’s the kind of outcry that I can only expect would be coming from the same types of people that spend their free time dressing up in white sheets and burning crosses. Certainly nothing on a level that any politician would ever have to worry about withstanding. One off-the-wall column by the editor of a conservative publication does not an ‘outcry’ make (thankfully).
You scare me, Gary. You scare me a lot. I only hope that more rational and realistic minds are in control of where our nation is heading — and much as I may dislike and distrust Bush, even I can’t see him, or any successor of his, going this far.
Does anyone remember that on Friday Sept 14, 2001, Pres. Bush said that he was on a new worldwide mission “to rid the world of evil,” and then on the following Sunday he said that the government’s goal is “to rid the world of evildoers.” So now the USA (known to some as “the land of the free”) has a responsibility to extirpate the world of its evil. We no longer seem to have an “evil empire” to defeat, but we have found a more sinister evil that will require a long-term, all-out war to destroy. Hitler was also a man who wanted to rid the world of evil. Yet, what was the problem with Jews that required a “final solution”? The earth could be made pure for the Aryan race only by exterminating the Jews, the “impure vermin” who contaminate it. Stalin needed to exterminate well-to-do Russian peasants to establish his ideal society of collective farmers. Both were trying to perfect this world by eliminating its impurities. The world can be made good only by destroying its evil elements.
Paradoxically, then, one of the main causes of evil in this world has been human attempts to eradicate evil.
Why can’t anyone understand yet that it is LOVE that appeases hate, not more hate? Nations deny causality by ascribing blame to others: terrorists, rogue nations, and so on. Singling out an enemy, we short-circuit the introspection necessary to see our own karmic responsibility for the terrible acts that have befallen us… Until we own causes we bear responsibility for, violence will make no more sense than an earthquake or cyclone, except that in its human origin it turns us toward rage and revenge.

The system that perpetuates violence is Islam. You are led around by your nose by your Imams. Is your God so weak that he needs mere humans to do battle for him? If Mecca were irradiated it would mean that 1) your God willed it, or 2) he doesn’t exist. If it is his will that Mecca be irradiated, then for you to seek vengance would be to go against the will of your God. If he doesn’t exist, then you are simply slave soldiers of your religious leaders and you need to awaken into the 21st century.

Even if the Muslim world were to unite, it wouldn’t have the combined wealth or technological ability to confront the United States, let alone the entire Western (modern) world. You are a sick individual to try to imply that nuking Mecca in any way would be any worse then what happened on Sep 11. Nuking Mecca is the only cores of action that could possibly keep all the deaths of Sep 11 from being in vane and it would be the only way to snap the evil extremists back into reality and make them realize that their jihad is not worth it. If I had the means my self I would do it my self. I would strap the bomb to my self and walk into the middle of Mecca on the pilgrimage and detonate. During the Cold War, the U.S. stated that it would respond massively in-kind against the countries of the Warsaw Pact in the event of a nuclear attack on America or its allies. While there is no Communist bloc now, the Muslim world, with its talks of an expansionist pan-Islamic nation, represents a similar threat. The WTC/Pentagon attack was not terrorism; it was an act of war. As such, we need to make it clear that ALL nations of the Ummah that harbor Transnational Islamic Soldiers will be held accountable in the event of a WMD attack on our country. An attack on the Muslim holy cities would be an afterthought, since we would have to target at least 25% of the Muslim population to make such a threat credible. There is no need for us to engage in a tit-for-tat exchange of cities, when we can annihilate ALL of them in a single retaliatory strike without fearing further retribution.

Here is a question for those of you who have not yet figured out what Islamic Fundamentalists have in store for America in general and, specifically, untold numbers of Americans in a city near you, in the very near future.
What will we do when a container ship headed for offloading in Newark, or Baltimore, or Long Beach, or Seattle disappears in a nuclear fireball, destroying everything in a radius of one mile and killing, indiscriminately, hundereds of thousands if not millions of people who up until then had no real quarrel with anyone?
If you find yourself getting bogged down about whether or not it will happen, you are not paying attention to the question. Forget if. Pretend for a moment it has happened. Imagine the same pristine blue sky that graced Manhattan three Septembers ago and fill it from horizon to horizon with the blinding flash and searing heat that comes from the release of the binding energy of a baseball sized lump of plutonium. Fill the sky with fire and imagine CNN and Fox news vultures hovering around the perimeter of the blast in triple anti-contamination suits, mumbling ad nauseum through their respirators about the magnitude of the attack and the likihood of additional bombs in the future, and ask yourself the question.
What will we as a nation do?
When you have wrapped your mind around the answer to that question you will have an inkling of where this all is headed.
The silent Muslims of the world should root out the radicals in their midsts. The fact that their religion is being given a bad rap is only being exacerbated by their wait and see attitude. Where is the voice of outrage raised in unison by Muslims around the world? There is far more at stake than they and many of us realize. Sitting back and wringing their hands is not going to help. For better or for worse, right or wrong, the road leads to Mecca and beyond. The ball is in their court.
So, think hard, then answer the question. If the answer won’t come then add another city to the list and ask it again. Still don’t get it? Just add another city until you get the picture. We’ve got lots of them. Lather, rinse, repeat. The question remains the same. What are we going to do?

Think how 911 changed your life on a personal basis ? Myself, I hate to fly and remain fearful of tall buildings in major cities. Beyond that nothings changed as far as the fear I feel in my life. I like the majority of Americans don’t live or work in a major city. Most Americans (despite what the media portrays) live in small to medium sized cities. Places like Austin , Des Moines, Charlotte, or Toledo. In those places I can tell you people are mad as heck at Islamic fundamentalist but don’t fear them on a daily basis.

Nuke Mecca? A viable option to be sure. However , lets start with an repatriation of all muslims living in the west. Lets be realistic this is legitimate self defense. We evolved… we had a renaissance, cultural and moral revolutions… I can’t remember which philosopher it was who said that ANY culture needs to pass different levels of “enlightenment”… first we believe in nature-gods, then polytheism, monotheism, metaphysics and finally we are “grown-up” enough to stand on this earth without the need of a God or godlike thing… and then we will be truly free. I believe this is slowly becoming the case in Europe, in lesser extend the US and other parts of the world… Other religious will get there too… they just need their own “renaissance”.

I agree that we should nuke Mecca. The Islamic extremists are very similar to the Japanese during WW II. They were fanatics, devoted to their emperor, like the terrorists are devoted to their Imams. The Japanese kamakaze pilots committed suicide in order to inflict causalties, just like the suicide murderers. The only argument that you can make with those examples is that fundamentalism and extremism are really bad things that result in terrible acts. I agree, but what prove have you got that every Muslim is an extremist? I agree that we should nuke Mecca. Also we should design little search-and-destroy flying robots, these robots would have a camera and be armed with a gun. They would have artificial-intelligence software in them, so that they would fly about and when they recognized that they were flying over a human that was a negro then shey would shoot it, dead. We should make millions of these things.

I say we need to take out Iran, Iraq, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, the rest of the Middle East, Eastern and Southern former USSR states other than Russia, India, Pakistan, China, most of North and Middle Africa, Mexico, Central America, south pacific asia (i.e. malaysia Timor, and the other asian islamic states). (keep Japan as we need them). By take out…I mean utter, complete, total hell-fire devastation where not a single iota of biological life will be present in the lands that we embark on destroying.
Then in North America we can finally live in peace. To avoid the environmental disaster from nukes, there are some rather classified and newer bombs called “Proton/anti-Proton Devices” which are significantly more powerful than nukes. All we have to worry about is the initial gamma ray burst and the vacuum bubble collapse but there would not a single atom of matter within 20 to 40 kilometers of each detonation. An elegant solution to a big problem of too many people on a finite planet. Plus no radioactive by-products because “Proton/anti-Proton Devices” are the first bombs to truly allow the promise of E=MC^2 = Total Mass conversion to gamma rays.
From a political point of view we could reduce the population from 6.5 billion to less than 2 billion in just a few hours. With regards to the people that would be left, I suspect there would be some initial anger at such genocide, but it would pass as they realize the breathing room left. Populations in places such as Europe or America would then tend to re-segregate into fairly homegeneous groups and move to the newly liberated frontiers. Those new groups, if again, they become rebellious and billigerent can simply be eliminated by another Proton/anti-Proton device.

It took a very intelligent man like Kennedy an INCREDIBLE amount of effort to keep the world from nuclear doom during the Cuba crisis. Islam promotes the overpopulation and undereducation of its followers (much as Catholicism once did). Just compare the demographics between Palestinians and Israelis. The more dogmatic its followers are, the more unable they are to cope in a modern, global economy. Disaffected, underprivileged, and unemployable Muslim youths eventually become radicalized in locust-like fashion to engage in conquest and violence.
Luckily, ignorant people can’t build nukes. Only states have the power to build nukes (and to carelessly lose them), so it is FAR more effective for us to hold entire states responsible for the safeguarding of nukes than it is to target individual terrorists.
Like it or not, evolution dictates that people from a certain region will feel genetic kinship to one another. Terrorists kill for the sake of their race (religion is just a civilized veneer to justify it). We haven’t gone nearly far enough to break terrorists of their altruistic behavior (suicide for the sake of biological relatives back home). If terrorists knew that their suicidal attacks would be rewarded with the genocide of their tribes, I guarantee you that no religion could make them continue their beastly acts.
I thought I was clear. I was just saying that in the time of the cold war you had TWO parties who were intelligent enough NOT to use nuclear weapons… The big talk-facade was adequately perceived by the other side and responded to appropriately with the necessary restraint to have it not lead to nuclear war.

Take a look at France this week! France banned the muslim scarfs in public schools and the community was infuriated. But when 2 French reporters got kidnapped in Iraq last week (and would only be released if the government revoked the law banning the scarfs) that same community stood up and condemned the action. They even went further and did everything in their power to help the government get those 2 reporters back.
Islam DOESN’T equal extremism… Just as being White, Southerner and Christian doesn’t mean you have a KKK-membership card. And that’s my biggest frustration with the Bush administration.
