Cybersodomy?
Links September 4th, 2002 |There’s a page for everything on the ‘net these days — even gay robots:
> Data — Starfleet’s first official Android, Lt. Comdr. Data has been a valuable part of the Capt. Picard’s crew aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise. “Gay-ta” and his high-profile are no surprise, since Star Trek has always been a leader in expanding society’s tolerance of issues previously considered taboo. (Women’s rights, Interracial romance, etc.) Although his first intimate experience was with a woman (Lt. Tasha Yar), Data has always exhibited curiosity toward many human customs. His first experience with emotion occurred after he choked a strong male enemy (Borg) to death. Data admitted feeling pleasure, indicating a fondness for S&M activities. Other homosexual characteristics include: neatness, good grammer, shiny hair, and an unwillingness to use violence unless necessary.

Just tossing this in a bit after I put up the actual post. The MeFi discussion on this post actually ended up going in all sorts of directions (starting with a surprisingly venemous post by XQUZYPHYR about how “…this entire concept of people all on their own deciding that fictional characters, primarily those from cartoons and children’s stories, are all secretly gay is just annoying.”), but towards the end people started regaining their sense of humor, and Secret Life of Gravy tossed this comment out that had me laughing so hard I was nearly in tears…
> > I’m still curious how you (or whoever) would describe a non-stereotypical gay character. > > I’m guessing this would be a cartoon character who acts, looks, and sounds heterosexual except for the scenes where he is snorking up a trouser snake.
I think it was the use of the phrase ‘snorking up a trouser snake’ that really got me — I’m still giggling every time I read that….

I don’t see what his grandmother has to do with other “homosexual characteristics.” Perhaps she attempted to teach him grammar.
I tried to instill in my children neatness, good grammar, and an unwillingness to use violence unless necessary. (I’m not sure about shiny hair.)
I thought I was raising gentlemen, but NOW I find out I was raising homosexuals. I wonder if Emily knows?

Well, let’s see — I spent a good amount of high school involved in the theatre…I turned 21 and ever since have spent the majority of my clubbing time in gay dance clubs…many of my friends (and some roommates) have been either gay or bisexual…I move to Seattle and immediately beeline for Capitol Hill, one of the primary centers of the gay community in Seattle…I’m a 29-year old single male, at a time when many (if not most) of my friends are either married or engaged…hrm….
I gotta say, mom, the evidence does seem to be mounting here! Maybe time to re-evaluate my dating options?
Or then again…maybe not.

OK. At this point I haven’t seen your eyes light up when one of your male friends walk into a room, as I have with some of your female friends.
I would, therefore, be somewhat surprised at “homo.” “Bi-,” though … some of your male friends have been kind of cute ;;-)
