This new ad for the Honda Accord (QuickTime required) is a definite must-see. It’s just grabbed a spot as my third-favorite commercial of all time.
Update: Even more jaw-droppingly amazing: this commercial isn’t faked! What you see in the commercial is one successful two-minute long shot — no trick photography, no CGI. Wow. (via MeFi)
For the curious, my second-favorite ad is the “Rainier Beer Motorcycle” ad of the late 80’s. Very simple — just someone riding a motorcyle across the landscape — but even today, if you go up to just about anyone who watched TV during the time it was on, they’ll remember it. The kicker? The whine of the engine was a long, drawn-out, “Raaaaaaaiiiiiiii…[gear change]nniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeerrrrrrrr…[gear change]beeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrr….”
All-time favorite ad, though, for quite a few reasons, is the Apple Computer ‘1984’ ad. Apple Computer, Ridley Scott, 1984 — a perfect ad.

I stopped by your site today for the first time. That commercial was awesome!!!! And it wasn’t faked!!! Whoa!!!
One of my favorite commercials was an ad for Coke. A grandfather and grandson where talking: Grandfather: You still in college? Grandson: I changed majors. I thought you knew… Grandfather: How’s your mother? Grandson: I live on my own now. I thought you knew… [awkward silence] Grandson: How is grandma? Grandfather: She moved out. I thought you knew! [laughter from both]
Love the Honda ad ! Wow !
It was worth every single minute and every bead of sweat. Truly one of the great ads and with any luck will raise the bar on ads to the art form they really are.
I, too, fondly remember the Rainier Beer commercial, but I think even better was the Hamms Beer commercial that followed it: it had the motorcycle doing the “raaaaaiiinnnnniiiiiiieeeeeeeeeeer” thing, but when it went around the corner, you heard a loud crash and then the Hamms beer truck entered from where the motorcycle was, with the Hamms bear driving. I thought that was a creative way to confront a very popular ad.
Received a Honda Accord commercial that showed a man picking up a hooker not realizing that his family was in the back seat. Neat commercial. I am trying to find out the name of the music (song and singer) in the commercial. Thanks, in advance, to anyone who can help me ID the music.
