Politics, Quotes 08/07/2003 |Y’know, at the moment, I’m not sure if I’m relieved or disappointed that I didn’t end up in California. I haven’t read enough of the details of their current political shake-up to know all the details, but just knowing that two of the higher-profile candidates are Arnold Schwarzenegger and Gary Coleman is enough to give me a fit of the giggles. What I wouldn’t give to see that debate session!

Update: Other candidates: Porn star Mary Carey (link NSFW, obviously), Hustler publisher Larry Flynt, and someone described as “aspiring platinum-haired billboard queen Angelyne” in this NBC report. This just gets better and better.

First it was get rid of Clinton because he lied about an affair.
Then it was take the election through the courts.
Now its recall Davis and take the Gov’s office away from a Dem and give it to a Rep.
What a joke, except its not funny. If the Republician party can’t win the election they willse to it the Dem. is thrown out of office?

It gets worse.
The reason for the recall ?
Because the budget for Calif is swimming in red ink.
The United states is swimming in red ink and you don’t hear the republicians talking about recalling Bush.
And WHY is Calif swimming in red ink? Because ENRON and other Co’s lied cheated and stole billions of dollars from the state government and the people of Calif.
Exec. office holders in ENRON have not yet been held accounable for their actions.
They have however donated large sums of money to the Republician Party and the George Bush.

Let’s call this recall effort what it is—part of the Bush re-election campaign. In 2000, Gore won California’s 54 electoral votes by a fairly narrow margin (Gore had 54% of the popular vote, compared to Bush’s 42%). Republicans know that in order to re-elect Bush, it is likely that they will need to win CA. Right now, the CA surpreme court consists of six Republicans and one Democrat. The move to vote to recall Davis has been upheld by the CA supreme court. (Big surprise there…) By blaming the state’s problems on Gov. Davis, instead of putting them in the hands of Republican leaders where they belong, the Republican party is hoping to insure that Bush will look good in comparison to any Democratic nomination. Muddying the name of Gov. Davis could go a long way toward convincing the general public that Democrats are evil and Republicans are wonderful. The popular press (large, multi-national corporations that make a lot of money) is making sure the recall story stays on the front pages, making sure that the rest of the country is vastly interested in the CA governor debate, even though those of us who live in other states would normally not care at all. For example, when was the last time you could name the governor of Idaho? Purely and simply, this is the beginning of the Bush smear campaign. The Republican party seems to be willing to put the blame for the problems it has helped to create on the heads of anyone other than itself. It’s only going to get dirtier from here on out.

Jay Leno the other night characterized the race as one in which a person who speaks German and a person who speaks Greek will be debating issues in English in a State wherein the majority speak Spanish.
