Texas pledge
Current Affairs August 20th, 2003 |“Honor the Texas flag, I pledge allegiance to thee, Texas, one and indivisible.”
That’s the brand-spankin’ new Pledge of Allegiance to Texas, required to be said just after the Pledge of Allegiance to the United States. Classrooms are required to display the flag, which for one school district, becomes a $50,000 expenditure.
$50,000 for flags, for an entirely spurious pledge. It’s a good thing we’ve got such ridiculously overpaid teachers and overfunded schools, so that this school district and all the others wouldn’t have any better ways to spend that money.

It’s not a new pledge: “In 1933, Texas State Legislature provided a pledge for the Texas Flag.: “Honor the Texas Flag of 1836; I pledge allegiance to thee, Texas, one and indivisible.” Unfortunately, the pledge referred to the 1836 national flag, known as David G. Burnet’s flag, instead of the Lone Star Flag.. In 1951, Senator Searcy Bracewell introduced a bill to correct this error; however, the Legislature did not delete the words “of 1836” until 1965.”

When reciting the Texas pledge, should you place your right hand over your heart (in the same manner as the US pledge?)

For the Pledge of Allegiance you place your right hand over your heart what about for the Texas Pledge? Do you just lower them down to your sides? I have people telling me all sorts of crazy things.

Ridiculously over-paid teachers?? Are you serious! It’s funny to me that only the most UNEDUCATED people have negative things to say about teachers. It’s such a shame to have people like you in society….
