Kodak moments
Politics 01/10/2004 |Yup, it’s a faint knock. I open the door a crack and it’s Eric. Eric is from the Sierra Club “our nation’s oldest environmental group” and did I know the Bush administration is a total disaster environmentally and the Bush administration’s policies are “raping our forrests and …” ME: One question. ERIC: Sure. ME: Did you vote for Nader in 2000? ERIC: Yes sir! ME: Get off my fucking porch. The good news is - Mr. Man learned a new word tonight.

p>Picture me, standing up and applauding.
On the one hand, I have more respect for someone who votes — even if they voted for Nader — than for someone who doesn’t vote. I also can’t really argue with someone voting their conscience, if they cast their vote for the candidate they truly thought would best lead the country.
However.
Last election (and the three years since then) should serve as an example to any and everyone. Much as people may wish that a third-party candidate could come out of nowhere and win, realistically, it’s not going to happen. At this point, any vote that does not go to help the Democratic nominee gain the Presidential office will just help Bush retain his position, and that’s the last thing we need right now.
I’m a Dean supporter. But in the event that Dean doesn’t get the nomination, the bottom line is simply anybody but Bush. And by “anybody”, I mean anybody who can realistically have a chance of defeating Bush — and by that, I mean the Democratic nominee.
It’s got to happen.

Sad, Bush is my home dog. Her’s doing a great job right now handling stuff (yes, I can get more generic). I’ll be one of the four people in Washington supporting George Bush.

Well, we’ll just have to agree to disagree with that one, then. I just can’t support an administration that lets things like this happen. Ever.

For better or worse, and scarily, I do support Michael’s stand on this. As our government is a two party system; if you want Bush out vote Democrat. That’s the sad reality of our system. And, I too am a Dean supporter.

I’m a Nader voter; did it on my conscience. Also because I was in a state where it wasn’t going to make a rat’s difference anyway; we were going Democratic, so it made the conscience thing easier to deal with. (Had I been in Florida, or elsewhere, I probably would have chickened out at the last minute and gone Gore.)
The thing is, if Bush had lost, we’d have Gore now. I don’t know how things would be different, but do you think there’s any chance in h-e-double hockey sticks that voters would a) vote Gore for two terms and b) give Democrats 12 years in the White House?
In a way (and this was pre 9-11) I was not too upset that Bush “won,” simply because I figured this way, we’ll all remember how badly a Republican can screw things up. Boy, howdy, have we and but good. Who knew what was really coming, of course?
I think this way, in a sense, Democrats are better off: country is reminded how royally screwed we are with these guys in charge, country goes no way, we get perhaps 4-8 more years of a Democrat. Whereas if Gore was in office right now, I sense we’d be facing a Republican victory, hands down.
Just some projection here. I’m with you, though, Michael: Anyone but Bush works for me. That’s basically what Michael Moore was saying last night at a discussion — he supports Clark.
