If not Dean, then who?
Politics 01/20/2004 |There’s a lot of good food for thought in the comment thread for this Daily Kos post-Iowa look at the Dem contenders. Some good discussion on whether Dean has suffered as bad of a blow as it may seem, and if so, then who might be the best person to pick up the nomination.
Most people that aren’t solidly entrenched in Dean’s camp seem to be leaning towards either Kerry or Edwards — not terribly surprising, as they got the top two spots in the Iowa caucuses — with a few leaning towards Clark.
For myself — well, at least for the moment, Dean is still my favorite of the bunch. Kerry has never particularly impressed me (he comes off as too much of a “traditional politician”, Clark I think would make a great VP or cabinet member (his military background strikes me as better fitting to a supporting role), and Edwards I just don’t know much about.
Any supporters of Kerry, Edwards, or Clark want to present a case why I should look more seriously at their campaign? I’m curious.
Update: Essentially the same question is being asked on Daily Kos — and apparently generating a good amount of answers. Worth looking into.

I haven’t read the posting, just the caption. Please change it to indicate sequence rather than contrast. If not Dean, THEN who. I know you and dad think you can get away with it verbally, but you can’t get away with it in print. Sorry. Now I’ll read what you said!
Same comment for last sentence in first paragraph.

I’ve had my political head in the sand up until the last couple of days. (Acutally, I’ve been up to my ears in moving boxes.) But in the past couple of days I’ve been tuned to NPR and even forced myself to listen to Bush’s hyperbolic "State of the Union Address". I must say that Dean’s speech New Hampshire today did not encourage my endorsement. His emotions seem to spike erratically and today he announced that he was taking on new demeanor. His own supporters seemed highly disturbed. Given that he’s already alienated much of his own following and from the froth-at-the-mouth screaming I’ve heard from speech excerpts my conclusion is - good policies or not, Dean simply isn’t professional enough to win. As you’ve said here - we need someone who can defeat Bush. I think Dean’s personality is too severe to engender mass appeal.
That said, I haven’t decided on who I will support. I’m leaning towards Kerry simply because, unfortunately, I think a political background will be extrememly important in this election. I feel he has the broadest appeal and that he or Clark have the best chance of defeating Bush. http://www.johnkerry.com/

Thanks for the changes. Yep, up late. Came upstairs to relax with Free Cell after Roundtable (we left the church at 9:45 — after our “7-9 pm” meeting.) Opted not to watch “Silly News” aka the Daily Show with dad. Then got sucked into the computer screen. SO easy to do!
