This is too nice a time of year to be fighting a war.

  4. Whoops! April 28, 2004

Hopefully he gets back in his car without having to pay a cabbie to break in. In the meantime, my pizza has appeared, and it’s dinnertime for me.

  5. Toyota Volta April 27, 2004

Italian design. Environmentally sound gas/electric hybrid. 408 horsepower. 0-62mph in 4.03 seconds, top speed of 155mph. Carbon-fibre chassis. Racing suspension. 31.7 miles per gallon. And it’s only a show prototype, not likely to be built. Such a shame.

  6. Nightline on Friday April 27, 2004

Now I want to tell you about this Friday’s [Nightline] broadcast. We’re going to do something different, something that we think is important. Friday night, we will show you the pictures, and Ted will read the names, of the men and women from the armed forces who have been killed in combat in Iraq. That’s it. That will be the whole broadcast.

  7. Well, that’s one solution April 27, 2004

I love whatever algorithms Google uses for their AdSense program. Much of the time they’re dead-on, but every so often, you get some wonderfully bizarre and hilarious combinations. For instance, upon reloading my page after adding my last post, I got the following set…

  8. Watch what you blog! April 27, 2004

It was bound to happen — and realistically, it probably has been happening, just now we’re getting news stories about it — US intelligence agencies are starting to keep an eye out on weblogs.

  9. Well, it was convenient… April 27, 2004

Okay, so on the scale of stupid things Bush has done, this may not be right at the top, but it’s still a rather sad look at how little respect the man can have for other people when he’ll use someone else’s shirt to clean his glasses while their back is turned.

  10. The greatest conspiracy theory ever April 26, 2004

A link to a somewhat sloppy article on 9-11 conspiracy theories on Metafilter led to a very worthwhile discussion today, including one of the best comments I’ve seen on there in a while. I’m reproducing it in full here — hopefully mokujin doesn’t mind. :)

  12. More megapixels isn’t necessarily better quality April 25, 2004

Something I need to keep in mind while continuing my search to replace my digital camera: 8 megapixels isn’t always better than 5.

  13. One week notice: my b-day! April 25, 2004

Consider this one week notice for any of you that might be in the Seattle area: next Monday’s my 31st birthday, so I’m making the yearly ‘haul your ass to the Vogue and hang out for a while’ call for Saturday night, May 1st.

  14. Bottomless bathtubs April 24, 2004

I have no idea when or why, but at some point in my youth, my overactive imagination seized upon the idea that there was no actual support structure underneath the bathtub. I was terrified that at any point during a bath or shower, the caulking would give way, or the bottom of the tub would drop out, and I’d go plummeting into the depths of the earth.

Apparently, anyone who uses TypePad to run their weblog auto-magically has a TypeKey login. Has this information been made public yet?

  19. Freedom! April 21, 2004

Only in Seattle would buying clothing involve standing in the middle of the store lobby, having a large bald man stand behind you and wrap his arms around your waist, and then assist you in dropping your trousers to your ankles.

  20. Neal Stephenson: Confusion April 21, 2004

I so need to get to the bookstore soon — Confusion, the second book in Neal Stephenson’s Baroque Cycle (which began with Quicksilver) is out. Salon has an interview with Stephenson and a review of Confusion up which both look good, though I don’t have time to read them right now. Argh! :)

There’s a certain irony in a publication mis-using an apostrophe in an employment ad looking for an editor.

  23. Donnie Darko coming back to Seattle! April 20, 2004

How incredibly cool — Donnie Darko, which disappeared from most theaters practically before it was released, has become such a cult favorite that its studio is going to be re-releasing it to theaters, starting right here in Seattle!
