Well, it was convenient…
Links, Politics April 27th, 2004 |Okay, so on the scale of stupid things Bush has done, this may not be right at the top, but it’s still a rather sad look at how little respect the man can have for other people when he’ll use someone else’s shirt to clean his glasses while their back is turned.
How would you feel about a person who thinks it is okay to grab your shirt and use it clean their eyeglasses?
That’s how arrogant our President is. During a commercial break on the David Letterman show, producer Maria Pope was on stage and discussing something with Letterman, and while she was standing there in front of Bush, George leaned forward, grabbed the back of her sweater and used it to clean his glasses. Check out the Quicktime video. Regardless of your political party and beliefs, we all know that this administration has raised some serious questions, and has often asked for us to blindly believe in the their drastic actions, all of which are clearly far more serious than this boner on the Letterman show. However, there is not a spin, explanation, or flat out lie that can defend Bush’s character in this revealing moment, when he was dumb enough to think that people or cameras were not looking. Even worse scenario is he did know, but just didn’t care. We deserve better leadership and representation. If you have any doubts, please vote him out.

Good thing he did not need to blow his nose.

That’s too damn funny… I wonder if Letterman has said anything about it. Would make a great little piece for him to talk about… could have some great laughs.

Isn’t there some “Stupid human” thing on Letterman? I don’t watch it, but I remember seeing it on another article (about a video Dave showed and the controversy with it). But jeeze, you wonder where the whole “crude yank” stereotype comes from.

This is ridiculous. Like, besides the rudeness. Using clothes someone else is wearing? wtf?
Well, as he would say, “Who cares what you think?”

Everyone seems to be jumping the gun…how do we know he didn’t know the woman? Or that he didn’t have permission to do so? You have to look at these things from outside the box.

As much as I appreciate people trying not to jump to conclusions, Waylon, that’s just ridiculous. Trying to make apologies for Bush’s political moves is one thing, but this was nothing more than thoughtless and rude.

Maybe he was running out of time on set? Maybe he didn’t have any material to wipe his glasses, so he asked the lady if she could use her jacket? (not jumper). Maybe they were in a rush, hence he had to us any source? Maybe he was ‘told’ to wipe his glasses via the jacket?
What I’m trying to get at is that there are numerous possibilities which can be drawn from this video alone. Some of them maybe negative, but others might not be detrimental at all. Considering that we don’t have the scenes prior to his glasses cleaning fiasco, we must be careful not to jump to too many conclusions.
Sure, everyone hates him, but there’s always a reason, right?

He did ask, and he did have permission. That’s why the clip starts AFTER he’s already wiping the glasses. If they showed the whole thing, there wouldn’t be anything interesting.

Filling in the gaps in history to fit our own assumptions, are we? I’d like to see a longer clip if you have access to one. It could be true that he just glanced at her and said “May I..?”, but it seems somewhat unlikely.

It’s stupid to be dragging up four year old material and making a big deal out of it, especially without knowing the details.
Hating someone is one thing, although a bit irrational. To use that hatred to backfill the intentions of everything a person does is counterproductive. Flesh out the story, or move on.
