No! We must keep talking about Regan until people forget that there are any current political situations. Never mind that Regan was 93 years old (a good long life by any standards)and hadn’t been able to speak for years. Ignore the fact that he is not the current president. Disregard the fact that he hasn’t been politically active in years. We should still spend days and days and days mourning him and forgetting more important issues. Okay, I’m all for honoring a man who was once very important to the country, but not in excess, and not to the extent that it overshadows current (real) problems. Should we really be surprised that an old man died, no matter how important he once was? People die. It’s part of the life cycle. People are dying by the thousands in other parts of the world, people who could be saved and who could live to be 93 with a little help from the United States, while our country is spending excessive amounts of money to haul one corpse across the country so everyone can take a look at it. Really, the whole thing is sickening.

Thank you Michael, Thank you Prairie! This is exactly what I was thinking.
He’s dead, yes, we get the picture. The picture on the news the day he died. The first day after he died. The first day after he died in the newspapers. Every day thereafter in the newspapers and on the television and slathering every freaking news outlet in existence except for Slashdot. And Slashdot, I am sorry to say, is not broad enough to keep me satisfied. Even my typical outlets of news that keep me three days ahead of most people have been dysfunctional because people are going to be a week and a half behind in the news now!

I totally reflect the opinions held by both Prairie and Robert! Excellent opinionated pieces. Anyway, I think this whole “Reagan-has-died-boo-hoo-hoo” is being purposefully EXTENDED by the GOP/Republican party/neoconservatives (take your pick, in my book, they are synonymous!) to bolster Dubbya’s current political standing in America. Reagan deserves a respectful burial, but not every day for the entire month of June. This is a critical ploy by the Repubs to “slingshot” their way into the White House again (by using Reagan’s death and inspiration to dupe the American public). This is nothing but a shield to the eyes of the average American, whom the current administration thinks they can manipulate! Look past the “proceedings” and you have the same old bunch of greedy and oil-hungry executives running our country. Do not be deceived!! That is all for now!!
