A Book of Blogs
Books, Weblogs December 6th, 2004 |Thanks to Alicia, I just found out about this project of Tvindy’s:
With all the phenomenal writing that has appeared on our various blogs over the past several months, wouldn’t it be cool for us to get together and publish a physical anthology of our greatest posts?
The way I envision it is that several of us agree to participate and have a couple of their entries published in the anthology. Since most people (myself included) find it hard to evaluate their own work, we can make suggestions as to what the best entries of our fellow bloggers are and urge them to choose those. That should make for some interesting debates. The final product would be a paperback, containing hopefully as many as fifty entries in no particular order. Each entry would identify the name (or pseudonym) of the author and the URL of her/his blog. We’d make a nice cover using combined artwork from various blogs, and there would be an introduction at the beginning explaining what the book was.
<
p>He’s got more thoughts on how to approach the project in his next three posts (make that four).
I think this sounds really good, and would love to contribute, if anything I have is deemed worthy of inclusion.
Taking a quick look at my recent Four Years post where I pulled out a lot of highlights, I’m thinking that the following posts would be most likely to work well:
- Mars Needs a Facelift!
- Best of Times, Worst of Times
- George
- iSfP
- Glitch
- Fun with Piercings
- The Need for Speed
- Back when Anchorage was Cool
- Of Course It’s Creepy
If anyone else has any other nominations, though, I’d be glad to see them. Your views on the “best” posts as readers might be quite different than mine as author.

Thanks for taking part. I’m going to be incommunicado for the next few days, since I have to travel. But I’ll be sure to add your suggested entries to the list once I get settled.

Sounds like an interesting project but what sort of essays would you think he really is looking for? Comedy, the one he cites is self-depracating humor. Real slice of life? Commentary, the other one he cites about Reagan wasn’t really that enlightening nor worth the read (to me, but then I hated Reagan and thought he was a phony who was playing to his cronies just like Bush II). I’d offer to join in but am not sure I’ve got anything close to what he’s looking for - especially since I’m not sure what he’s looking for.

From what I read, there’s no specific theme — just “best of” posts, good writing, etc. A little bit of everything.

Book of Blogs II
Earlier this month, I linked to a blog anthology project by Tvindy. I liked the idea and nominated a few entries for inclusion, but as more is better: as readers, are there any posts that stand out in your mind as particularly noteworthy, for whatever …

Okay, I’ve read through all your suggestions (sorry it took so long). These are the three that strike me as being best suited for the book:
-Fun with Piercings -The Need for Speed -Of Course It’s Creepy
Of course, anyone is welcome to debate these choices or suggest others.
Chas, I also found that Reagan post disturbing and pretty much disagreed with everything it said. At the same time, I thought it was interesting that someone with reasonable intelligence would really see him as a great president. It really gave me something to ponder. Also, I want to be careful that the selections overall don’t get slanted too far in one direction. When I started this project, my hope was that everyone who participated would take part in suggesting and debating the final selections. That hasn’t happened nearly as much as I had hoped, and unfortunately, the majority of the entries on the list were ones selected by me. But anyone can suggest or argue against any of the choices. You are welcome to have some of your entries published if you like.
