He had a piercing stare…

This is hands-down one of the coolest things I’ve seen in a long time — eyeglasses without rims, bows, or even a bridge. They’re attached via a bridge piercing.

I’ve never had a desire to get pierced, but if that was a direction I wanted to go in, I’d give this idea some serious thought.

    Glasses piercing

    Cool piercing holding eyeglasses. [VIA]

This reminds me of that one Saturday morning cartoon where the three guys could have the various pieces of armor and weaponry attached to thier suits. They were beamed around by some chick in a satelite or so…

    YUCK!

And a comment on clearing the paper jam noted on the sidebar:

I used to pull dead shrews out of the Xerox (Yes, it was that brand) at St. Christopher’s during the winter. We could tell when we had one by smears on the drum. We didn’t explain to the congregation what the marks on the bulletin were, though.

    Bummer about the camera.

  5. It may seem outrageous to some people to have a piercing through your skin attach your glasses to, but it’s really no different than those permanant dental implants people can get to replace missing teeth, or attach their dentures to so that they stay in place better and have a more natural fit.

While piercings seem painful from the looks of them, they really aren’t as bad as they may seem. Getting the initial piercing usually only involves a small amount of pain and/or discomfort (if any at all) which usually lasts no more than a few seconds at most. Healing time is usually within the neighborhood of 6-8 weeks or so for the majority of piercings, with varying degrees of discomfort from mild or none, to moderate. Other than following proper aftercare procedures, and taking very good care of the piercing until it fully heals, (barring any unforeseen complications) there really isn’t much to it .

I think it is great to see innovative ideas, and unconventional methods of doing conventional things. This very well may be a small glimpse into the future.

  6. I do think they are totally cool and like Crimson I believe they are an innovative idea, and an unconventional method of doing conventional things. Somebody is thinking out side the box and I love it.

However having said that I don’t think that this idea is a good one. I’m not speaking of piercings in general which are fine. But just these glasses. I have to disagree with Crimson about being the same as dental implants (which I have). At issue is breakaway. Implanted teeth are anchored to bone and have the same breakaway as regular teeth and pins to hold plates are also anchored in bone and the teeth themselves pop off the pins for easy removal or breakaway in the event of an accident.

The nose is cartilage, which is much softer than bone. And wouldn’t stand up under much pressure. I suspect even a sweater catching the eyeglasses during removal may tear at the nose but more importantly what happens during a fall or a car accident? It’s hard to tell from the picture but there really needs to be breakaway other than ripping the bridge of your nose out.
