  1. Keeping New Readers February 28, 2005

Problogger has a short series of posts with tips on how to keep readers who have stumbled across your site via a search engine hit or some other method. Interesting stuff, though nothing groundbreaking, and as it turns out, I do most of what he recommends already.

  2. Battlestar Galactica Season 1…done! February 27, 2005

Up until this week, I never got the whole thing with people downloading and watching shows on their computer. I’ve got such a low opinion of the majority of TV shows that I just couldn’t see spending the time and resources on such a project. Then I got bit by the Battlestar bug.

  3. Halle Berry wins Razzie…and respect February 27, 2005

Halle Berry staged an Oscar-worthy parody of her Academy Awards meltdown at last night’s 25th annual Razzie awards in Los Angeles. Breaking with tradition, the Catwoman star showed up in person to collect her award as the worst actress of 2004.

  4. Just stop talking February 27, 2005

Many years ago, I went to a summer camp in which one of the activities was horseback riding. This ended up being a less-than-successful experience for me, though, as as soon as I got up in the saddle the horse reared up, dumping me rather unceremoniously on the ground as I slid off the saddle and over the horse’s rear end.

  5. MT-Blogroll February 27, 2005

I’ve just updated and revised my blogroll over to the right. Instead of relying on an external service to manage my blogroll, I’m now using a new plugin from Arvind Satyanarayan called MT-Blogroll that implements blogroll management directly into the MT interface.

  6. …ask what you can do for your country. February 26, 2005

One night, George W. Bush is tossing restlessly in his White House bed.  He awakens to see George Washington standing by him.  Bush asks him, ‘George, what’s the best thing I can do to help the country?’

  7. My Movable Type tweaks February 26, 2005

I got an e-mail from a friend who’s in the process of switching over to Movable Type, and he asked if I had any recommendations for plugins or tweaks to the core system. Here’s a look at what I’m currently using.

  9. Theatre Plans February 26, 2005

The Seattle Times has announced the 5th Ave. Theatre’s 2005-2006 season. Lots of good stuff coming up, including The King and I, but the one that’s really catching my eye is Sweeny Todd.

  10. Flickr being bought by…everybody? February 25, 2005

For the past few days, rumors have been flying around that Yahoo is buying Flickr. Whatever the truth of the matter, never let it be said that Flickr isn’t handling the rumors with good grace and a sense of humor.

  11. Critical Mass February 25, 2005

While I don’t currently own a bike, so I couldn’t join in the ride, I did wander down to Westlake Plaza today to catch the gathering of riders for this month’s Critical Mass ride.

  14. You Ashcroft! February 24, 2005

Well, it turns out that some airline passengers watching the Oscar-nominated film ‘Sideways’ on foreign flights are, in fact, hearing ‘Ashcroft’ as a substitute for a certain seven-letter epithet commonly used to denote a human orifice.

  15. Yeah, I’m clueless about these things… February 24, 2005

Now, in theory, it’s supposed to be possible for me to go out onto the ‘net somewhere to find digitized copies of tv shows that I could download and then watch on my computer. How in the world would I go about this?

  16. Battlestar Galactica Episode 1 February 24, 2005

This is incredibly cool: The Sci-Fi Channel has posted the first episode of Battlestar Galactica season one on their website, free, uncut, and without commercials.

  18. Hunter S. Thompson February 23, 2005

Seeing all the many varied reports of Hunter S. Thompson’s unfortunate demise reminds me that I’ve actually never read any of his work. So, then, a question for those more familiar with Thompson’s work than I am: any recommendations?

  19. Jim Steinman February 22, 2005

I just need to know what the song you just played was — but before you tell me, I want you to check something out for me. By any chance was that song written or produced by Jim Steinman?

  20. Kubrickr February 22, 2005

Here’s a nifty toy for all you Wordpress users that have recently updated to v1.5 and are using the default ‘Kubrick’ theme: Kubrickr. Given a tag, it will search Flickr for all licensed photos with that tag and then allow you to crop the photo down to create a replacement header graphic that drops right into the Kubrick layout.

  21. My Netflix ‘wishlist’ February 22, 2005

I’ve (again) run up against the 500-title limit in my Netflix Queue. To get around that, I’ve made a very focused del.icio.us account for DVDs I want to rent, but can’t put in my Netflix queue at the moment. Keep an eye on it if you like. Or not. Whichever. ;)

  24. Full-time blogging February 22, 2005

I’ve got to admit, I wish I could ‘pull a kottke’ and move to blogging as a ‘job’. The idea has a lot of appeal. Unfortunately, I’m in no shape financially to do such a thing, and I don’t have the wide readership that he has that would allow me to request donations.

  25. Mature? Me? Naaahhh… February 21, 2005

The thing about seeing a flock of birds camped out on a publicly accessible dock is that one is faced with the completely immature and totally insurmountable desire to go running down the dock and into the flock.
