John pointed out The Commonly Confused Words Test, so I gave it a shot. My results:
>Advanced
>You scored 100% Beginner, 93% Intermediate, 93% Advanced, and 61% Expert!
>
> You have an extremely good understanding of beginner, intermediate, and advanced level commonly confused English words, getting at least 75% of each of these three levels’ questions correct. This is an exceptional score. Remember, these are commonly confused English words, which means most people don’t use them properly. You got an extremely respectable score.
Exceptional or not, I have to admit, I’m a little chagrined by that 61% on the Expert section. I’m generally rather proud of my command of the language, so getting a ‘D’ on that section of the test really makes me curious as to where I goofed up. Unfortunately, the only answer key available is for the Beginner section, which I scored 100% on.

You (I) scored 93% Beginner, 93% Intermediate, 93% Advanced, and 66% Expert!
Not bad for a foreigner, huh? I think a lot of the points were lost on those questions where both a correct American and a correct British spelling exist. The author didn’t make it clear as to the results of giving one correct answer or the other (but not both).
You scored 80% Beginner, 86% Intermediate, 81% Advanced, and 66% Expert!
Personally I don’t think that is too bad. I”m not a native speaker, haven’t had an English class for over 7 years, don’t use it that often and just got out of bed.
Maybe the test is too easy? I definitely have had tougher English exams in high school.
You scored 100% Beginner, 100% Intermediate, 100% Advanced, and 84% Expert.
That can’t be right. I mean, I always have to think about what “animosity” means, amongst a great deal of other words. I’m just not that smart.
Looks like the site’s pretty hammered; I’ll have to come back and take it later. In the meantime, I’d like to rant a bit about a trend in English usage that I’ve recently seen:
<outrage> WHAT?! </outrage>
Just because there are blanks in the question doesn’t mean that it’s “fill-in-the-blank”. “Fill-in-the-blank” is when you have to fill in the blank. This is actually a multiple-choice test. Sheesh.
Dammit, it borked in the middle of my test, and I only got a score for the final page (88%). And I can’t figure out where the retest is. But I know I got 100% on the beginner section.
And Royce, if you want to split hairs, it’s technically a multiple-choice-to-fill-in-the-blank test
I’ll have you know that I took this test pre-coffee…
Extreme Special Case You scored 26% Beginner, 13% Intermediate, 93% Advanced, and 77% Expert!
Anyone have a grammar primer they would suggest. Apprently, I understand the more complicated aspects of the English language just fine, but my basics suck. Greeeaaat…
Hmmm, I was just looking at the answer keys and on the beginner and intermediate, I have not answered anything wrong.
In fact, if you look towards the bottom of the answer key, it states that there have been some incorrect scoring problems due to OKCupid…
So, Woody, I think you likely did much better than that test scored you. Same with myself.
How could I do better as an intermediate than I did as a beginner?

I also wish there was an answer key. When I took this earlier in the week I got 93/93/93/66.
OK …
You scored 100% Beginner, 100% Intermediate, 93% Advanced, and 72% Expert!
So we should make our own key, especially for the last set. I wanna discuss it.
I had much the same thought this morning, and almost did that in my original post. I’ll make a new “answer key/discussion” post this evening after I get home from work, if I don’t see something pop up before then.
And my mother tongue is not English!
You scored 100% Beginner, 100% Intermediate, 88% Advanced, and 66% Expert!
I have always found it amusing how you people confuse “their” and “they’re”. Maybe because we, learning English as a foreign language, read A LOT… but all of you learn by hear.
I also sign up for discussing the Advanced and Expert answers!
You scored 80% Beginner, 86% Intermediate, 75% Advanced, and 72% Expert!
I’ve never been abroad in my life (I’m Argentine) and all I’ve learned is from a five years course and A LOT of movies, books and albums.
I guess that score is not bad for me.
Just as Romm said, it’s pretty amusing that confusion between “their” and “they’re”.
100% beginner 100% intermediate 93% advanced and 66% expert
I’ll watch for the discussion!
Are you ready?
Oddly Expert?
You scored 6% Beginner, 13% Intermediate, 12% Advanced, and 77% Expert!
Your test results are extremely interesting. Though your test scores in the beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels weren’t very high, you got at least 75% of the expert level questions correct. Possibly you guessed very well in the expert level section? I don’t know what else to say. You puzzle me immensely.
Point of fact I did not guess! I KNEW the tough ones is was the easy ones I had problems with. I’ll explain later…
