Blog Definitions
Humor 05/12/2005 |I ran across this amusing post today discussing Robot Johnny’s upgrade to Tiger, linked first by Jeffrey Zeldman, then by Anil Dash:

Of course, I had to see this for myself, so I checked it out on my own system, using Tiger’s way-cool (yes, that’s a technical term) contextual menu dictionary lookup:

So now I’m curious. Was Robot Johnny making a funny? Or is the definition of ‘blog’ that he saw something snuck into the Candadian localization of Tiger (I’m assuming Candaian, given that his about page says that he lives in Toronto)?
If you’re using Tiger and live outside the US, what does your system define ‘blog’ as? If the definition he quoted is actually in other versions of Tiger, I’m both greatly amused, and slightly bummed that we Americans didn’t get that particular snark. Hey, I think it’s funny….

So it is in your US version, Paul? Now I’m even more confused — why isn’t it in mine? Weird.
(And for the record, I’m quite happy with being lumped into a ‘twentysomethings’ category myself!)

Perhaps it has something to do with the Oxford Dictionary pull-down menu I see in that screenshot? Does it show up in another?

Aha — found it, thanks to a couple e-mail missives sent my way today and a followup post on RobotJohnny.
It looks like the pop-up definitions are slightly truncated due to the small window used — doing a search in either the actual Dictionary app or the Dashboard widget shows the full definition, complete with skarky usage example.
And here I thought Apple was somehow just trying not to offend me!
(As far as Canadian/Candaian goes, though…yeah, I should probably just fix that. Thanks mum!)
