War of the Worlds June 29, 2005
Verdict: very well done, brilliant and extremely effective effects sequences, several nice nods to the 1953 film version, as true to H. G. Wells’ book as it could be given the modern-day setting…but with two major flaws that, to me, end up making this one a renter.

Office Depot bootlegs June 29, 2005
I stopped by the downtown Seattle Office Depot on lunch to do some coveting, and had to wonder how customers were expected to compare the quality of the various LCD displays when they were all playing a highly-compressed video of music videos taken from CMT’s broadcast stream.

Just a coincidence June 28, 2005
I’ve updated my original post to reflect this, but just to be perfectly clear, it does appear that North Shore’s “I’m just here to get laid…” shirt is nothing more than a coincidence, as I knew was possible. From what I can tell, my I’m Too Sexy… shirts (‘I’m too sexy for my blog’ and ‘I’m too sexy for your blog’) are still one-of-a-kind.

OpinionOutpost comment spam June 28, 2005
Today I received the following comment on my weblog. The comment was posted to an old entry, had nothing to do with the subject of the entry, and was nothing more than an unsolicited advertisement — in short, it was spam.

Shiny! June 27, 2005
Just a quick note of thanks to Bryan, Dori, Shelley, Tvindy, Jacqueline, Johan, and probably others that I’ve forgotten. All of you have, at one point or another, either personally or through your weblogs, recommended Firefly. I just finished watching the last episode tonight…and damn if I’m not as excited about Serenity as the rest of you are.

Imitation, Flattery, and All That Jazz… June 27, 2005
If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, then I suppose I should consider myself flattered — either that, or there’s a rather surprising coincidence going on. Update: Coincidence! See the end of this post for more…

MiS Day Two: 2005 Seattle Gay Pride Parade June 27, 2005
Day two of the “MiS (Men in Skirts)” weekend has come and gone. Rick, Kirsten, and Kory joined Prairie and I to head up the hill to this year’s Gay Pride parade.
We staked out a spot right about where I was last year, just in front of Seattle Central Community College. Over the past couple […]

Shake, rattle, and roll June 25, 2005
‘Did you feel that?’ ‘Yeah…what is that?’ ‘No idea.’ The entire apartment was shaking, slightly, but very noticeably, about once every second and a half or so. It felt like a small earthquake, except that it was far too regular, and it kept going.

MT-Upcoming June 23, 2005
In other words…yes. I’m just that desperate for a stalker following my every move around town. Life just isn’t worth living without a psychotically obsessive fan or two, after all.

Goth Pride fundraiser June 23, 2005
Last night I made a rare mid-week visit to the Vogue, as they were having a fundraiser for the local goth community’s entry into this Sunday’s Pride parade. It gave me a chance to play a little bit with low-light photography, experimenting with various shutter speeds to see if I could get anything decent.

Another bad headline June 22, 2005
It’s actually about a Juneau, Alaska homeless shelter which just realized that it’s illegal for them to serve donated game meat, including bear.

Advantages of a Real Server June 22, 2005
A quick look at my traffic over the last month does a good job of illustrating the benefits to moving to a server that can actually respond at a decent speed.

Fame June 21, 2005
Last night when I went down to check my snail mail, another of the residents in my apartment building was checking his. I was heading back to the elevator when he spoke up. ‘Hey — aren’t you Eclecticism?’

More old Gig’s photos June 20, 2005
I’ve updated my photoset of old photos from Gig’s Music Theatre with shots of a lot of my friends from that time period. If anyone finds them and says ‘Hey! Get me offa there!’ I’ll oblige. Hopefully that won’t be the case, though.

In retrospect, this was really stupid. June 17, 2005
Looking back, this post from Oct. 25, 2001 — almost exactly two years before the brouhaha at Microsoft — stands out as quite likely the stupidest post I’ve ever made, and one that could potentially have gotten me fired for far better reasons than that silly photo.

Free Wi-Fi for my apartment? June 17, 2005
Today on my way home for lunch I saw a work crew installing one of the Wi-Fi antennas on a lamppost on the 8th Avenue bridge over Freeway Park. Now I’m starting to wonder if my building just might end up with free Wi-Fi access provided by the City of Seattle.
