Shiny!
Film, Television 06/27/2005 |Just a quick note of thanks to Bryan, Dori, Shelley, Tvindy, Jacqueline, Johan, and probably others that I’ve forgotten. All of you have, at one point or another, either personally or through your weblogs, recommended Firefly. I just finished watching the last episode tonight…
…and damn if I’m not as excited about Serenity as the rest of you are.
Two quick questions (spoiler-free answers, please):
I couldn’t find Book anywhere in the trailer. Am I just missing him, or did they not put him in for some reason? I’m sure I’ve read that all of the primary cast came back for the film.
Isn’t Kaylee just one of the cutest/sexiest women ever? Admittedly, part of that may be that she’s about the closest thing to a “clone” of an earlier Whedon character (Willow, of course) who was consistently my favorite on Buffy…but even if I hadn’t had a silly fanboy tv-character crush on Willow, I’m pretty sure I’d have one for Kaylee.
Anyway, thanks for mentioning this show often enough and with high enough praise that it caught my eye. It was well worth it.
Now to see if I can get Prairie to watch the series before the movie comes out…

You watched Firefly, great! Damn that’s a good show. It was my first glance at Whedon’s work, really good series.
1 - It looks like they didn’t put him in the trailer. It’s been a while since I saw it, but I remember not seeing him. Actually, I remember not seeing Kaylee either…I should go watch it again.
2 - Totally agree! From her first appearance on the show I fell in love with the character, and I hadn’t watched BtVS when I saw Firefly.
I’m gonna watch the show again now, and I hope I can get my sister to watch it, I wanna introduce her to Whedon’s World.
Let’s hope Serenity is just as good.

Yeah, no sign of Book in the trailer - not really a huge surprise, since Book’s character didn’t really get a chance to have it fleshed out a bit more (I think if the show ever got off it’s feet, we might have been exposed to a bit more of the Shepherd’s past). As it is, the story really only had time to focus on River. Which is why we see lots of her in the trailer, as I’m guessing the movie focuses primarily on her story.
And yes, Kaylee == teh hawt!!! Goodness gracious, I love her.
And to top things off, she’s a good ol’ Canadian girl!

Kaylee is cute as a button, but it’s funny how she first meets the crew in “Out of Gas” by having sex with the original engineer when Mal and Zoe walk in…
Seems almost out of character for her.

(2) Ohhh, yes. And as mechanical engineer I feel particularly qualified to be attracted to her.

I’m told that if you go through the trailer frame by frame (okay, I’m an obsessive fan, but I’m not that obsessive!) that Book can be seen briefly. My own guess is that it’s an action-oriented trailer, and Book’s not generally an action-oriented character. If there are later trailers, he may show up more in them.
So far as Kaylee goes, I’m on record as possibly being the world’s only Mal/Kaylee shipper. I think that the two of them could be really happy together.
You’re very welcome, btw, and pass the favor on down by turning a few more people into fans before Serenity arrives!

Book is in the sixth picture in the “Gallery” section on the http://www.serenitymovie.com website.

I thought you must be wrong, because Ron Glass is listed in the credits, so surely he’s in the movie, but alas for me, he must have a petite part. (Or should I say a petit-part, no e, as he’s a boy ‘n’ all.) In the link to the story they describe only six outlaws on the boat, which implies Book’s not aboard. Sad! I had a crush on Ron Glass in the Barney Miller days (Yeah, I’m old, so what) and can’t see enough of him.

Book is in the movie (I’ve already seen it). I can’t say anymore without giving away spoilers.

Welcome to the gang! You may have noticed by now, the magic word is “Whedon”. You see that name attached — watch out. I’m currently converting Royce, just like I did with Buffy.
And a big yep on #2. I think the main problem with Angel is the lack of a cute redhead.
