  1. The root of the problem… February 28, 2007

It’s nothing really, but the grammatically preferable version of this phrase is ‘for whom I’m supposed to root,’ which is the most hilarious collection of words I’ve encountered since ‘Academy Award-winning screenwriter Ben Affleck.’

  4. It’s Academic, Really… February 24, 2007

The sea squirt has a very simple brain which is used only to find a suitable spot to root itself for life. Once it’s settled into a spot, it no longer needs the brain, so it eats it. This has been compared by at least one Researcher to a professor receiving tenure at a university.

The Clothesline Project is a program started on Cape Cod, MA, in 1990 to address the issue of violence against women. It is a vehicle for women affected by violence to express their emotions by decorating a shirt.

I’d be hard pressed to come up with a Top Five (or even Top Ten or Twenty) list of favorite movies, but if I did, The Princess Bride would definitely be on there.

  11. Just move it to the streets February 16, 2007

Nice rant on Metroblogging Seattle yesterday regarding the ongoing, neverending mess of a fight between Greg ‘Big Dig Seattle’ Nickels, Christine ‘Viaduct? Vhy not a duck?’ Gregoire, and the people of Seattle who just want this all over with…

  12. Are ‘diggers’ the internet’s neocons? February 15, 2007

It’s that same all-or-nothing, no-quarter-given, us-or-them, black-and-white viewpoint that our culture is rapidly sinking into. No matter whether the arena is politics or the net, online or off, there seems to be no room left for people who actually want to talk to each other, even if they don’t agree.

Hatred Fatigue: being so wearily sick of the Bush Administration pushing forth an agenda which is on every point the precise opposite of what you think and believe that you can’t bear to pay attention anymore.

  16. Wanted: One Apology from the Seattle PI February 12, 2007

The PI’s public vilification of the crane operator was a slimy, sleazy way to grab eyeballs and sell papers at the expense of his reputation. Trial and conviction should be handled in the courts, not in the headlines.

Admittedly, I’m not quite sure how I ended up in the West Seattle round (will I have to move if I win?) — truth to tell, I think I’ve been to West Seattle once or twice, and have only lived on First Hill and up here in Northgate — but hey, no complaints!
