I’m trying to decide if I’m a hypocrite for being unsure about how I feel about Kid Rock’s new single “All Summer Long” — which, though catchy, is little more than new lyrics on top of the riff from Warren Zevon’s “Werewolves of London” — when I’m sitting on a 10.79 GB collection of 1,462 mashups.
(Update: Y’know, after watching the video, even if I am on the hypocritical side of things, I’m feeling less guilty about it, based solely on the fact that Kid Rock is incredibly skeezy. Ick. I feel dirtier just having watched that.)
(Second update: The worst part is, the song is damn catchy, though that says far less about Kid Rock than it does for Warren Zevon and Lynyrd Skynyrd, whose “Sweet Home Alabama” is also sampled.)

Ha, get over it. In the time you’ve been wringing your hands about whether or not you can allow yourself to rock out with this fun song other people have had a blast playing it out and moved on.
This song was getting a huge amount of radio play a few weeks ago, but I haven’t heard it in at least 2 weeks. Very weird. But I still hear Rihanna’s “Disturbia” like 6 times a day, ugh. It’s a catchy tune, but Kid Rock is indeed a serious skeezbag. And I like to think that your average mashup makes a better effort at connecting two interesting songs, whereas here Kid Rock is basically just becoming the Puff Daddy of hillbilly rock.
Heh. That’s awesome. Especially as I used P.Diddy as an example when I was trying to explain to my coworker my conflicing feelings regarding pop “appropriations” and mashups.
