Three best of the decade lists follow, all yoinked from Slashfilm. For each list, I’ve marked the films I’ve seen and the films we have in our movie collection at home.

Links for July 22nd from 08:52 to 15:24
By Michael Hanscom – July 22, 2009Sometime between 08:52 and 15:24, I thought this stuff was interesting. You might think so too!
More on Pixar (Or, Why I Suck at Soundbites)
By Michael Hanscom – July 3, 2008A couple weeks ago, I got an e-mail from Jaime Weinman, who writes for Macleans, asking for a quote for an article she was working on about Pixar’s future. I agreed, and in my usual style, sent her a small book. Proving yet again that I just cannot write for soundbites, my quote was boiled down to one simple line.
Misogyn•E
By Michael Hanscom – October 3, 2007This looks to be the third time running (following Cars and Ratatouille) that I’ll wait to rent Pixar’s latest, rather than sending any of my money their way via the theater.
Rataphooey
By Michael Hanscom – July 1, 2007Given that Ratatouille has just hit theaters, I feel compelled to revisit a question I asked just over a year ago: Is Pixar a ‘boys only’ club?
Is Pixar a ‘boys only’ club?
By Michael Hanscom – May 20, 2006Honestly, I’d never even thought about this until Prairie brought it up after we watched one of the trailers for Cars, when its predominantly male-centric theme got her started thinking about the rest of Pixar’s oevure. Just where are the girls in Pixar films?
Tuesday Ten (In My Pants)
By Michael Hanscom – February 28, 2006A variation on the ‘ten random tracks’ music meme, adding in the fortune-cookie game of adding ‘…in my pants’ to the end of the fortune…or in this case, song title.
Scalzi’s Top 50 Significant Sci-Fi Films
By Michael Hanscom – October 18, 2005Another list meme: this time, John Scalzi’s top 50 significant sci-fi films. As always, films I’ve seen are in bold.
2005 Fremont Solstice Parade
By Michael Hanscom – June 19, 2005A selection of my favorite shots from yesterday’s Fremont Solstice Parade and Festival.
Marilyn Monroe
By Michael Hanscom – March 27, 2005Up until last week sometime, I’d never actually seen a Marilyn Monroe film. I knew who she was, of course, and had seen the occasional brief clip from one film or another here and there, but I had yet to actually watch any of her work.
Toy Story 3 having problems
By Michael Hanscom – January 31, 2005o one wants to direct ‘Toy Story 3.’ That’s the word in Hollywood’s animation world, where the third installment of the incredibly successful Pixar series has no director, writer or, possibly, stars. My sources in the animation biz tell me that Disney, which will make ‘Toy Story 3’ without Pixar, cannot find a director to guide the project.
Nomanisan Island
By Michael Hanscom – November 24, 2004I hadn’t picked up on this before, but the name of island where Syndrome has his evil lair in The Incredibles is ‘Nomanisan.’
The Incredibles
By Michael Hanscom – November 14, 2004Took Prairie out to see The Incredibles today — my second time, her first. As I said before, Pixar can do no wrong, and the movie was just as good the second time. Possibly better, as I caught a couple lines and gags that I’d missed the first time through.
The Cannon
By Michael Hanscom – November 11, 2004I’d never heard of Sarah Vowell, the voice of Violet Parr in The Incredibles, before I started to read the various reviews of the film once it opened. Turns out she’s a writer and radio personality, which is how her voice caught director Brad Bird’s hear when he heard her story about her father’s cannon on This American Life.
Brad Bird
By Michael Hanscom – November 9, 2004Like the Brothers Grimm, Dr. Seuss and Maurice Sendak, Brad Bird knows that kids can handle some tough concepts, and he never insults the intelligence of his audience. The greatest children’s entertainment has always been challenging and sometimes difficult. But those are the books, films and shows that transcend pop culture to become timeless classics.
The Incredibles
By Michael Hanscom – May 15, 2004Is it just me, or does this guy (I’m assuming it’s the Villain) look a lot like John Lithgow’s character in the Sylvester Stallone movie Cliffhanger?
