Gee, I’m real sorry your mom blew up, Ricky.

Monday’s back — woohoo?

The highlight of this past weekend, of course, was finally getting my monitors. Friday Rick left a message for me while I was at work letting me know that all the stuff had arrived, and so I spent Friday evening shuttling back and forth in a cab from my place down to Rick and Tim’s apartment at 1st and Denny. It took two round trips to get the big pieces (one for the three 17″ monitors, and the second for the two Klipsch speakers) — and then the rest of the evening was playtime. I started by getting the monitors set up and started the process of wiping and re-installing the system software on the mac, then while the ‘puter was thinking I got the speakers hooked into my stereo and plopped down to watch the Pod Race sequence from Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. Sure, the movie’s easily the worst in the series, but I’d been wanting to hear it in true surround since it came out — what a kick!

A lot of Saturday was spent running around. I’d gotten the upgrade CD to move up to Mac OS X 10.1 in the mail a week or two back, so I had started by wiping my drives. Unfortunately, I hadn’t thought about the fact that the CD was an upgrade disc, not a full installer, and my OS X 10.0 install CD was still at Casey’s from when I installed OS X on his G4. Oops! So most of the day Saturday was spent on the bus and talking with Dez as I grabbed the stuff I needed to actually install the system on my computer. By the time I got home I’d gotten slightly motion sick (it’s rare, but it happens sometimes), which was a bummer. Casey has just gotten a job working for Intel and was having a celebratory get together, but I wasn’t up to another bus trip at that point and had to beg out.

The evening, however, was a blast. Heather came over a bit after 8pm, and we hung out until about 10-ish when Chad, Dez, and Rick showed up. The five of us spent some time at my apartment, then headed over to the Egyptian Theater for a midnight showing of a classic 80’s comedy, Better Off Dead. Despite a less-than stellar presentation (including three false starts as the staff tried to figure out how to work a movie projector), the movie was as funny as ever, and having a chance to see it with a theater full of people was wonderful. After the movie, homeward bound for all of us.

Sunday was a combination of laundry, working on the computers, and hanging out with Heather. She’s as much of a movie buff as I am, so we’ve been having fun introducing her to a bunch of the flicks that I’ve collected that she hasn’t seen yet. We started with American History X, then after some time to recover from such an intense film, lightened the mood with what’s rapidly becoming one of my favorite recent Disney flicks, The Emperor’s New Groove. Also during the day, Rick came by with two pieces of artwork that he’d brought down for me that I hadn’t been able to get into the cab on Friday — one a painting by a friend of mine and my brother’s, Aaron Morgan, of the logo for Beefadelphia, the band that Aaron and my brother were in a few years back; and the other a print of a painting by German dadaist Max Ernst of the Madonna spanking Christ.

So, things are definitely coming together — two out of my three prize pieces of artwork have made it down, my monitors are here and the computers are up and running. I’m in the process of getting a ‘net connection (it’ll be dialup [shudder] at first until I can afford a good DSL line), and this morning I ordered myself a good drafting chair from OfficeDepot, since constantly standing at my table to work on the computers just isn’t worthwhile. Not a bad start to the week.

Now…back to the copiers….
