Water shutoff – again

This entry was published at least two years ago (originally posted on August 15, 2003). Since that time the information may have become outdated or my beliefs may have changed (in general, assume a more open and liberal current viewpoint). A fuller disclaimer is available.

I just got home from work to find a note taped to the front of my apartment building letting the tenants know that unless our leasing agency pays our water bill in the next thirty days, water will be shut off.

This just happened three months ago. Admittedly, the water was not shut off in that instance, but getting the same notice again doesn’t exactly do much to instill confidence in me.

Needless to say, if anyone happens to be apartment hunting in the lower First Hill/Downtown Seattle area, I can wholeheartedly recommend avoiding the Park Seneca (recently renamed Alfaretta) Apartments, and I’d be wary of any building controlled by Kauri Investments.

  1. Hey… don’t take this wrong, but consider – you posted the other day that you had no sympathy for people who didn’t download their Windows updates in time to avoid the Blaster worm – but you’re in a bit of the same sort of spot with your apartment.

A few things have happened at your place now that have caused lots of other people to ‘update’ their place of living and move. And while it might take some extra time and effort to do your update, I think it’ll be worth it to have a good building in working order.

You’ve put up with far too much (imho).

  2. (grins) You’ve got a very good point, no worries about me taking offense at it. And believe me, it’s something that i’ve been turning over in my head quite a bit.

There’s just a few stumbling blocks to work out — I really do like both the location and the apartment, even if the building and its owners have issues; apartment hunting is a pain in the butt; and, most importantly, Melvin pulled some strings to help me move in here, so I didn’t have to put down a security deposit or last month’s rent. Because of that, I’ll have no money coming back to me when I move out (hey, it seemed like a good idea at the time…), and I’ll need to get the costs of moving into a new place saved up.

(sighs) I’m perpetually saving up for one thing or another, aren’t I? Ah, well. In any case, moving out of here likely is in the cards for the future, I’m just not entirely sure how soon.
