Poet Laureate…George Bush?

This entry was published at least two years ago (originally posted on October 5, 2003). Since that time the information may have become outdated or my beliefs may have changed (in general, assume a more open and liberal current viewpoint). A fuller disclaimer is available.

Did you know that our President is a poet? Neither did I — thankfully, CNN gives us a taste of his lyrical genius.

Roses are red
Violets are blue
Oh my, lump in the bed
How I’ve missed you.
Roses are redder
Bluer am I
Seeing you kissed by that charming French guy.
The dogs and the cat, they missed you too
Barney’s still mad you dropped him, he ate your shoe
The distance, my dear, has been such a barrier
Next time you want an adventure, just land on a carrier.

  1. Wow, Laura Bush must feel so honored to have such a worldly and eloquent husband – I mean, she is a librarian and all, so she’d really know what real poetry is.

Plus, I am so jealous. I think I’m going to start asking Denton to call me ‘lump in the bed.’ I’d feel ever so important and special to him if he did.

Honestly, with a ‘welcome home’ like that, I’d have stayed in France with Chirac. I bet that double kiss on the hand was the most action Laura Bush has gotten in MONTHS.
